Swiss Foundation for Technical Coperation

Swisscontact is an independent non-profit development organization and focuses on private sector-led, sustainable economic development and improved quality of life for all in developing and emerging countries.

The Vocational Skills Development Program (VSDP) is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). It is implemented in Myanmar by a consortium which is led by Swisscontact (the Swiss Foundation for Technical Cooperation) and includes INBAS (Institute for Vocational Training, Labour Market and Social Policy). The Program's overall goal is to: “Contribute to improved livelihood opportunities for women and men in targeted areas and occupations in Myanmar.”

In 2019, SDC collaborated with the Ministry of Education of the Government of Myanmar to expand the dual apprenticeship training for cooks. A larger facility for classroom-based training and for the training kitchen was needed.

VSDP was looking for a company that could renovate and prepare the existing building for the installation of classrooms and a professional training kitchen.

We, Ikon Mart, were awarded the contract to upgrade, design, and renovate the building and prepare it for the installation of the professional training kitchen at the GTI Insein, Yangon.

In summary, the training venue had been designed and upgraded as Changing room, Demonstration kitchen, Preparation area, Bakery room, Kitchen room, Dining Room, Dishwashing Room, Two theory class rooms, Toilets, Two office rooms with the following facilities services:

  • (1) Interior Design Works and Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) Works
  • (2) LP Gas Supply Line System (Detection System)
  • (3) Kitchen Exhaust Duct and Evaporative Duct Line System
  • (4) Kitchen Fire Suppression System
  • (5) Water Treatment System
